How can I help someone when they need movement, noise or another person to get going?
People come here to understand why something in everyday life feels harder, different or more costly than it should โ and what might make it work better.
Short answer
Let support be physical and practical if that is what helps.
What this can look like
They may start more easily while walking, with music on, beside someone else, or with their hands busy.
Why it can happen
Movement, sound, co-working or another person nearby can give a task rhythm or a clearer beginning. Ask what works for them rather than prescribing your own preferred setup.
What might help
Offer the kind of company or environment they prefer: a short walk, quiet co-working or a shared start time. Do not frame it as supervision.
What the research helps explain
Australian ADHD guidance and international consensus evidence describe ADHD as affecting everyday functioning for some people, including attention, planning, memory, time and follow-through. Practical support can still be useful without deciding that ADHD is the explanation.
What can vary
Stress, sleep, health, environment, task design and preference can create similar patterns. Do not diagnose someone from a pattern or give support they have not asked for.
For this situation
For you, offer company, a walk or quiet parallel work as options, not supervision.
